Here is the most spectacular scenery and dramatic natural history in the County! Thacher State Park is situated along the Helderberg Escarpment, one of the richest fossil-bearing formations in the world. The park provides a remarkable panorama of the Hudson-Mohawk Valleys and the Adirondack and Green Mountains. In addition to wonderful views and important geologic formations are a self-guided nature trail and over 25 miles for hiking, mountain biking, and cross-country skiing. Some trails are level and easy, others more challenging. Additional winter recreation includes snowshoeing and snowmobiling. In the Summer, the park offers volleyball courts, playgrounds, baseball fields, picnic areas and camping at Thompson Lake campground.

Hunting is permitted in specified areas of the park.
