Fall walk: Bender Melon Farm

Once home of the “Bender’s Surprise” melon, this former farm is now an Mohawk Hudson Land Conservancy property with new trails being blazed all the time.  The plan is to explore the trails in the forest across the rail cut, which is accessible now thanks to repairs to the bridge.  Leader: Steve Jones.  Directions:  The preserve is roughly 1.5 miles from the intersection of Rt. 155 and 85A/Maple Rd., at the west end of Voorheesville.  Take 85A south until Hilton Rd. (on the left); you will see the old Hilton barn from 85A, and the parking area is just in front of it.  (14 Hilton Rd., Slingerlands, NY 12159).
