Flora Foray with Skye: Peebles Island State Park

January 18 @ 12:30 pm - 3:00 pm

This is the first in a series of guided outings with ECOS board member Skye van der Laan.

A naturalist and rare plant hunter, Skye will lead monthly excursions into some of the remarkable habitats that surround the Capital Region, with a close focus on the native flora of our area. We will range through bottomland swamps and upland bogs and fens, explore sand plains and dry hilltop forests and look at rich woods, floodplains, and riverine islands throughout the area. Topics will range from moss to trees, from cellular structure to full ecosystems, and we will look at everything from wild orchids to parasitic and carnivorous plants to common (and uncommon) weeds. Walks will average around 2 hours and the pace will be a pastoral one, with regular stops to look at plants.

We’ll be meeting at 12:30 for lunch and discussion if desired (bring your own lunch), walk starts at 1:00
