Flora Foray: Woodlawn Preserve, Schenectady

September 20 @ 12:30 pm - 3:00 pm
We will stroll the path that leads around the pond at this preserve famous for its unique flora. A remnant of past time, Woodlawn offers up a number of interesting plants that were once typical of some of the pine bush wetlands. A combination of sandy substrate and adequate neutral or basic groundwater create conditions that are now quite rare in the region. We will also see many of the typical sandplain plants on this loop. In general the walk is on level ground and the path is wide, though we will encounter some soft sandy substrate.
