Weekday Winter Outing: John Boyd Thacher State Park

Bruce Bonaquist will be leading our hike this week. The hike will be from a small trailhead on Old Stage Road which has minimal parking. So we will plan to carpool from the parking lot for the Altamont Village Offices. We will leave in carpools at 9:30am to shuttle up to the small trailhead parking lot that only fits 6 to10 cars.

The walk is about 3 miles: to the overlook, a loop portion of the Fred Schroeder Trail back to the overlook, and then out to the trailhead.  Should be great views from the overlook based on a sunny forecast.  Temperatures are forecast to be between 3 & 12 degrees. There is insufficient snow for skiing. We are planning to walk the trail with regular winter boots and poles. YakTrax or equivalent could be packed for traction if necessary because of any changes in conditions.
