Fall walk: Sanders Preserve, Glenville
Almost 400 acres of forest with many trails over rolling terrain, as well as a small but stunning waterfall. There is a great variety of trees and undergrowth, including numerous ephemerals (and invasives). The paths are often narrow and certainly not level but slopes are modest; expect a fair amount of mud. Leader: Steve Jones. Directions: Coming on Rt. 5 from the west, turn left onto Washout Rd. (Rt. 51) and, after 1.7 miles, turn right onto Sanders Rd.; parking is less than a half mile, to the right. Coming on Rt. 5 (State St./Mohawk Ave.) from the east, in the village of Scotia turn right onto Sacandaga Rd. (Rt. 147); in 2.4 miles turn left onto Ridge Rd. (Rt. 49), then drive 2.5 miles to the left turn onto Sanders Rd., where parking is less than a mile to the left. Address: Sanders Rd., Glenville, NY 12302.
