Fall walk: Thacher State Park Escarpment and Indian Ladder Trail, Altamont

One of the best local vistas from which to view the gorgeous fall foliage.  We will walk along the top of the cliffs and enjoy a panoramic view of the Hudson Valley and the Green Mountains of Vermont.  Many species of raptors use the aerial currents rising from the escarpment to help their migration south.  An optional walk will descend 60 ft. of stairs to marvel at the limestone cliff face along the Indian Ladder trail and slip under a waterfall cascade.  Leader: Deb Barnes.  Directions: From Rt. 146, Main St. in Altamont, continue straight onto Rt. 156 west, past the Stewart’s Shop, ascending the hill.  Follow Rt. 156 for 3.3 miles, turn left onto Rt. 157 East, continue 3.5 miles, then turn left still on Rt. 157 East; drive 2 miles into Thacher State Park proper, and park at the Visitor’s Center parking lot, on the left.  Address: 830 Thacher Park Rd, Voorheesville, NY 12186.
