Second Sunday Bird Walk: Schoharie Crossing

June 14 @ 8:00 am - 10:30 am
In partnership with the Schoharie Crossing State Historic Site, we’ll meet at the Visitors Center parking area to first bird along the Schoharie Creek before heading east along grassy and hard pack dirt paths along the old Erie Canal. We’ll cross over a historic 1841 lock, while birding the open grassy fields, shrubby edges, and forest patches looking for late migrant songbirds, marsh and wading birds, and any raptors that might be scouting the Mohawk River for forage fish. The Visitor Center will be open specifically for our group to use their restrooms and view their historical exhibits!
Walk Duration: 2-1/2 – 3 hours, depending on bird activity. Bring your binoculars if you have them, but if you do not own a pair, we will have a few binoculars to loan out for the walk. We will run the walk in light rain, but predicted thunderstorms for the morning of the walk will cancel. Dress for the weather and wear comfortable footwear – hiking boots if possible. This event is geared towards teenagers and adults. Please register with John by emailing: [email protected].
