Day trip: Explore the Paleozoic Era

November 22

We’re introducing a series of ECOS day trips. On Nov. 22, we’ll start the day with a stop at the Gilboa Museum outside of Middleburgh. At 10:30 a.m. we’ll meet at the museum for an intensive course on Devonian flora (and even some fauna) with the museum’s founder, Kristen Wyckoff. The Devonian is the era, around 375 million years ago, when fish were evolving toward life on land and the forests still had no conifers or flowering plants. We’ll follow the museum with lunch at the near-by cidery, and have the afternoon for fossil hunting at the Rikard Hill quarry and Gilboa’s creek. There’s also an impressive waterfall and the dam that swallowed the town of Gilboa whole. If we’re making good time we can take a look at trails nearby. Those who wish can end the day with dinner in Schoharie. We strongly encourage pre-registration, so you can receive notifications of any changes or redirection – and also so we can give Sunken City Cider an idea of how many people to expect for lunch. Contact by email [email protected], or text 518-688-4829.

Day trips are a new experiment for us. Help us make it a great success, and join us on the trail into Paleozoic ecology!
