Flora Foray: Bennett Hill Preserve, Fuera Bush

November 15 @ 12:30 pm - 2:30 pm

Bennett Hill is a small hill that stands alone on the edge of the town of Clarksville, on the edge of the Helderberg Escarpment. The land the
preserve sits on was a farm in the early 1900s but has been mostly untouched for the last hundred years or so. The hill is unique in the
area because it is topped with naturally occurring Red and Pitch pine, indicating a history of fire. We will walk the trail, ascending
through mature forest with large chestnut oaks, spend some time exploring the pine woods and a small perched buttonbush swamp on top.
The trail is a steady uphill on the way up, and can be slippery.

Meeting in the parking lot on Bennett Hill Road at 12:30 to discuss the geology and flora details (feel free to bring your lunch), walking
at 1:00 p.m.
